Privacy policy

Last updated: 4 November 2026

Hopworld is an iPhone app that helps travellers learn useful phrases and translate on the go. This policy explains what information the app collects, why, who helps us process it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. We've kept it short and in plain English.

Who we are

Hopworld is run by Blossom Osiuhwu, a sole trader, based in Ireland ("we", "us"). We're the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at privacy@hopworldapp.com.

The short version

What we collect, and why

You can use the translator and the Phrasebook without an account; then we collect nothing about you. Lessons need an account, and with one we store:

InformationWhy
Your name (from Sign in with Apple, or the one you type in)So Orbi can greet you
Your email address (your own, or Apple's private relay address)To sign you in with an email code, and to contact you about your account if we must
An account ID, and your Sign in with Apple identifier if you use itTo know which data is yours
Your learning progress: finished lessons and stars, days you practised (your streak), and lives usedTo save your progress and keep it the same on all your devices
The language you speak and the one you're learningTo show lessons and meanings in the right languages on every device
Your Trip Pass and lives purchases (product, transaction ID and dates, from Apple)To check purchases with Apple and make them work on all your devices

We don't collect your location, contacts, photos, recordings, browsing history or advertising identifiers, and we don't use analytics or crash-reporting services.

What stays on your iPhone

The microphone is used for pronunciation practice and voice translation; recognition happens on your iPhone using Apple's speech technology. The camera and photos are used to read text for translation, also on your iPhone. Translations are made by Apple's on-device translation. None of this is sent to us. Some settings (for example, sound on or off) are only stored on your iPhone.

Legal basis

We process your account data because it's necessary to provide the app you asked for (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR, performance of a contract). We keep short-lived server logs for security and to fix problems, based on our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe (Article 6(1)(f)).

Who processes your data

They act on our instructions and are bound to protect your data. Where data is processed outside the European Economic Area, it's covered by safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

Deleting your account

In the app, open the Learn tab, tap the account button (the person icon), then Delete account. This deletes your account and everything saved with it from our servers and your iPhone, and revokes Hopworld's access to your Sign in with Apple account. You can also email privacy@hopworldapp.com and we'll do it for you. Any Trip Pass time left is lost; Apple handles refunds at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, and ask for it in a portable format. Email privacy@hopworldapp.com and we'll reply within a month. You can also complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie) or the data protection authority where you live.

Children

Hopworld isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

This website

This website doesn't use cookies, analytics or trackers, and loads no third-party fonts or scripts. Cloudflare, which hosts it, processes basic request data (such as IP addresses) to deliver and protect the site.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
