Lessons and lives
How do lives work?
You have up to 7 lives. A wrong answer in a lesson costs one, and you get one back every 30 minutes, so they're full again in three and a half hours. The lives chip at the top of the Learn tab shows when the next one comes back.
Is anything free without lives?
Yes. The Emergencies topic is always free, and practising a level you've already finished never uses lives. The translator and the Phrasebook don't use lives either.
I ran out of lives. What can I do?
Wait for them to refill, practise a finished level, or buy a lives refill or a Trip Pass from the out-of-lives screen.
Trip Pass and purchases
What is the Trip Pass?
A Trip Pass gives you unlimited lives and every level for 30 days. It's a single payment and it doesn't renew, so you're never charged again unless you buy another one.
How do I restore my purchases?
Open the Trip Pass screen (from the menu button on the Learn tab, or the out-of-lives screen) and tap Restore purchases. Make sure you're signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you used to buy it.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds are too. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose the purchase.
Your account
Why do I need an account for lessons?
Your account saves your progress, streak, lives and Trip Pass, and keeps them the same on all your devices. You can sign in with Apple or with a code sent to your email.
My progress isn't showing on my other iPhone or iPad
Sign in with the same account on both devices (the same Apple ID for Sign in with Apple, or the same email address), and make sure both are online. Changes appear within a few moments of opening the app.
How do I delete my account?
Open the Learn tab, tap the account button (the person icon at the top), then Delete account. This deletes your account and everything saved with it. Any Trip Pass time left is lost. Read more in our privacy policy.
Translator and speaking
The translator says it couldn't translate
Translation runs on your iPhone using Apple's translation languages. The first time you use a language pair, your iPhone asks to download it. Once downloaded, it works offline. You can manage downloaded languages in the iPhone Settings app under Apps › Translate › Downloaded Languages.
The microphone or speaking exercises don't work
Hopworld needs permission to use the microphone and speech recognition. Open the iPhone Settings app, go to Apps › Hopworld, and turn on Microphone and Speech Recognition. If you're somewhere you can't talk, tap Can't speak right now to skip that exercise.
The camera can't read the text
Allow camera access in Settings › Apps › Hopworld, hold the phone steady, and make sure the text is well lit and in focus. You can also choose a photo from your library instead.
